Do not interview on our campus, especially foreign professors!

choose 3 or 4 questions : read through the questions and choose the 3 or 4 that you would like to ask a foreigner (or write your own). Try to learn them.

Find a foreigner : where would you go to find a foreigner? insadong and gyeongbok palace are the very best places because there are so many tourists there; also, Hongdae, Taehangno, Inchon Airport... etc. (People in Itaewon tend to be busy because it's their home, so I don't recommend Interviewing there)

외국인 찾기 : 외국인을 어디로 찾아가야 할까? 인사동이나 경복궁은 많은 관광객이 있어 좋은 장소이며, 또한 홍대, 대학로, 인천공항 등이 있다. (이태원에 있는 사람들은 자신의 집이 그곳이므로 바쁜 경향이 있어 추천하지 않는다.)

 

Ask permission : "Excuse me.. May i ask you a couple questions?" People don't like to be stopped without an explanation. if you tell what you are doing, they will be more likely to accept.

질문 요청 : "실례합니다.. 몇가지 질문을 할 수 있을까요?" 사람들은 설명없이 멈춰세우는 것을 좋아하지 않는다.

너는 너가 무엇을 하고 있는지 말해야 그들이 받아들일 가능성이 있을 것이다.

 

Also let them know you will be recording the conversation because you will need to transcribe what they said onto paper to show your teacher. (but don't mention videos unless they ask!)

또한 종이에 적어 선생님에게 보여 줄 필요가 있으므로 당신과의 대화를 녹음한다고 전해라.

Ask your questions: Use rejoinders and follow-up questions. And be sure to listen to their answers to respond properly! This is real conversation practice!

Take a picture! : It's a nice memory, will give you confidence in the future, and it's also required for you report!

you should do this project along with someone who can video your conversations on your smartphone.

너는 너의 스마트폰에 대화를 비디오로 담을 수 있는 누군가와 프로젝트를 수행해야 한다.

 

You will talk with at least 2 groups of foreigners, but only need to prepare one video of your best interview to show in class.

너는 최소 2 그룹의 외국인과 대화해야 하지만, 수업시간에 보여줄 최고의 인터뷰 비디오를 준비해야 한다.

 

Students may ask you questions about your video.

in addition, you should also make a written transcript of what was said during the conversations.

This will be a listening exercise, where you will listen at home to your interviews and write down as best you can what the foreigners said in response to your questions.

if your conversations went long, just make a transcript of the first five minutes of each conversation.

너의 대화가 길어지면, 첫 5분의 각 대화들의 사본을 만들어온다.

 

you will need to prepare written transcripts for all of your conversations.

너는 너의 대화가 모두 기록된 사본을 준비해야 한다.

 

Please type these transcripts on the computer using Microsoft word, using times new roman 12 point font.

너의 컴퓨터에 마이크로소프트 워드를 사용해 사본을 작성하고 12포인트의 굴림으로 작성한다.

 

With each conversation transcript, write the name of the foreigner(s), what country they are from, and what stage of culture shock you think they are experiencing.

각 대화의 사본과 함께, 외국인의 이름을 적고, 어디에 사는지, 그 지역에 문화충격을 받았다고 생각한 것을 써라.

 

Also attach their photo to the transcript, or print one page with all the photos together.

또한 사본에 사진을 첨부하거나, 모든 사진을 한 페이지에 출력해도 된다.
