1. In adopting this standard, the jurisdiction will select one or more rehabilitation objectives which mest be met by buildings that have either been targeted by the jurisdiction for mandated seismic rehabilitation or ― by reason of owner-initiated activities, sych as major structural modifications ― have come undernthe jurisdiction's rehabilitation ordinance.

2. Since codes for new buildings have chapters that briefly address existing buildings, care must be taken in coordinating and referencing the adoption of this standard to avoid amviguity and confusion with other ordimances and codes.
