뉴욕에 사는지라(뉴욕은 인종차별이 그닥 없는편이죠.) 별 걱정없이 사는데 오늘 엘레베이터를 타고 올라가는데 어떤 청소부가 Am I gonna get shot?(나 쏠꺼야?)라며 비아냥거리길래 미국에 사는 한국인으로서 미국사람들의 반응이 어떤지 갑자기 궁금해져서... Korean-Americans fear backlash (한국계 미국인들은 보복을 두려워한다) 란 기사에 달린 리플들을 봐봤습니다.

This horrible act was not racial, and I hope it remains that way. If we as a nation want to attack the ethnic groups that a murderer belongs to, there wouldn't be anyone left in the world. 한국인 사회에 보복을 하는건 조가 한 일만큼이나 무식한 일이야. 이 끔찍한 일은 인종에 관련된게 아니었고, 그런식으로 남았으면 좋겠다. 우리가 한 나라로서 살인을 이유로 다른 인종을 공격했다면 지금쯤 세상에 남아있는 사람은 없을거야.

As an African American woman, I am more than familiar with racial profiling, but this is ridiculous. I blame the media for this because they are the ones who play up on the fact that the shooter was Korean. It just seems ironic that don't do the same when the criminal is white. This should be time for everyone, no matter the race, to put their prejudices down and pray for the victims and their families. 이 기사에 대한 리플들을 봐왔는데, 대체 왜 인종이 이 참사랑 관련된건지 아직도 모르겠어. 아프리카계 미국인(흑인을 뜻하죠.)으로서, 난 인종차별에 관해서 굉장히 익숙한편인데, 이건 정말 웃긴다. 일단 총을 쏜 사람이 한국인이란걸 강조하는 미디어부터가 잘못된거야. 아이러니하게도 백인이었다면 이런 기사는 올라오지도 않았을거야. 지금은 모두가, 인종에 상관없이, 편견을 버리고 피해자들과 가족에게 기도를 해야할 시기야.

Race always has to be brought into every little tragedy, whether we want to admit it or not. It doesn't take someone's race to commit a crime or their country, it takes a sick individual to commit a crime. 만약에 승희가 여기서 태어났고, 그의 부모도 여기서 태어났으면, 우리가 이렇게 너네나라로 돌아가란 소리를 할까. 우리가 인정하든 안하든, 인종은 항상 모든 참사에 끼어있어야만 하나보네. 범죄를 저지르는데 한사람의 인종이나 국적은 필요없어, 그냥 사람 자체가 병신이면 되지.

How about we talk about how stupid this forum is, and that peaceful nations are always welcome into the United States. 이 이야기도 관두고 이 기사도 그냥 잊어버리자. 이게 다 별 이유없이 우릴 낚으려는 미디어의 낚시질이야(어느나라나 찌라시의 낚시질은..). 이 사람은 미쳤었고 선량한 사람을 죽였어. 이야기 끝이야. 우리 그냥 이 기사가 얼마나 멍청한지에 대해 이야기 하고, 평화로운 나라들이라면 미국에 얼마든지 올 수 있음에 대해 이야기 하는게 어때.
....이렇게 리플들의 분위기는 대체 한국인들이 이 일과 무슨 관련이 있길래 이런 기사까지 뜨냐.. 식의 글이었습니다. 다수의 인종이 사는 미국이라 다른걸까요..(미국빠는 아닙니다.. 절대-ㅗ-)? 미국이라고 초딩마인드의 사람들이 없는것도 아닐텐데, 대학 캠퍼스 안에서 33명이 죽은 일 치고는 리플들이 꽤나 의젓했습니다. 이 일이 반대로 한국에서 일어났다면(미국인이 총기로 대학생 33명을 사살했다면) 무슨 일이 일어났을지 상상해봅니다. 아마 미군들 다 돌맞으면서 철군하고 미국인들 한국에 오려면 머리 검게 염색하고 살좀 태우고 한국말 연습 많이 하고 와야 했을듯.. 또 이런식으로 말 하면서 미국인=백인 이라는 저의 편견도 보게 되는군요. 많이 부끄럽습니다. 이 일로 미국에게 사죄하고 어쩌고 하기보다는, 우리 자신은 인종이나 국적에 따라 편견이 얼마나 심한지 되돌아봤으면 합니다.
