 Edaravone. The initial trial did not show any statistically significant benefit, however, on looking closely at the data, the researchers identified a sub group which appeared to show a slowing of disease progression. Further work needs to be done on this before we can say whether this drug is effective. Further studies are currently in the pipeline.
 
The results of a small clinical trial of an anti-inflammatory drug, Ibudilast, showed that it was safe and well tolerated and may have some benefit for respiratory weakness. This trial is only at the early stages, so further research is needed to establish long term benefits.
