해외에서도 세월호관련 서명을하내요 동참하라고 메일까지오고
국내는 유독이걸 감추려고만 하니 참 답답합니다.

Dear friends across Korea,

The whole country is in grief -- still haunted by the images of the young student in life jackets video-chatting with her parents waiting for rescue that never came. Now it's up to us to turn this sorrow into action to make sure tragedies like this never happen again. Click to call on the Park Geun-hye administration to get to the bottom of the Sewol accident and adopt strong measures to prevent future disasters, and then share widely:

SIGN THE PETITION
One month ago, the world helplessly watched hundreds of people drown to death, many of them high school students on a field trip. The whole country is grieving and angry, but now we can turn our sorrow into action and ensure tragedies like this never happen again.

The  crew members who neglected their duty to protect the passengers are to be tried for murder, but this just the tip of the iceberg. The Sewol disaster happened also because ill-advised government policies that fatally relaxed public safety requirements for ferries. But with elections round the corner, we have a unique opportunity to push politicians to right the wrong -- over 1,000 scholars abroad have released a statement holding the government responsible for the disaster, and more than 30,000 citizens gathered at the Chongye square last week in protest.

There is no time to lose -- if enough of us join now, we supercharge this call for action and persuade the government to do what the people of South Korea wants -- to launch a full investigation into the accident and adopt of strong measures to prevent future disasters like this. Sign now and share with everyone -- Avaaz will deliver our message through the media and to the government when we reach 50,000 signatures:

It’s heart-breaking -- a recovered phone that belonged to a student victim shows a video conversation between her and her parents, desperately waiting for the rescue that never came. Our government’s ‘rescue’ operation disappointed just about everyone and now they’re stopping and frisking citizens, just for wearing the yellow ribbons to commemorate Sewol victims! This has to stop right now.

One thing is clear -- it was a government policy what allowed the Sewol’s owner to import an aged ship and add more room for passengers and cargos. The safety inspection and the certification of the ship were left to private entities often formed by ferry owners themselves.

This is the story of our friends and family and it shouldn’t be repeated ever again, especially because we CAN prevent it together. Sign now and share with everyone -- call on the President Park Geun-hye to protect her citizens:

Sampung department store, Sungsu bridge, and Daegu subway explosion and Sewol ferry… Too many people have died from accidents that should have never happened. It’s time to draw a line in the sand and shout, never again. Those desperately waiting for rescues were our friends and family and it is our responsibility to act for them. Let’s come together and fight for them right now.

With hope and determination,

Oliver, Jooyea, Luis, Iain and the whole Avaaz team
