Men’s 400m freestyle favorite Park Tae-Hwan from South Korea has been disqualified for a false start during Saturday morning's preliminary race. Maybe. Or a referee might have called the wrong lane.
"I don't know what happened," Park told reporters. "I need to speak to my coach to find out."
Park wasn't informed of the disqualification until after winning his preliminary race with a time of 3:46.68, and if anything it appears there might have been movement from Aussie swimmer David McKeon in lane three, not Park in four.
The South Korean Federation is meeting with the FINA Bureau at 2:30 p.m. London time to review the appeal. No video will be admissible as evidence during the appeal, which makes little to no sense. Call us. We have plenty available.
Canadian Ryan Cochrane will slide into the eighth and last spot in the 400m free finals and NBC's Jason Devaney has confirmed that the referee who DQ'd Park was indeed Canadian. He stands by his ruling.
