4일 현지 언론에 따르면 필리핀 국가수사국(NBI)은 전날 새벽 중부 관광지 세부의 한 빌라에서 한국인 남성 9명과 필리핀 여성 7명을 성매매 혐의로 체포했다.

이들 한국인은 지난 2일 관광차 필리핀에 입국했다. 일부는 혐의를 부인하고 있으며 모두 보석을 신청한 것으로 알려졌다.

주필리핀 한국대사관은 이들 한국인의 구체적 혐의를 파악하며 영사 조력을 제공하고 있다.

한국대사관의 한 관계자는 "필리핀에서 성 매수를 하다가 적발되면 최장 12년의 징역형을 받을 수 있다"며 "자칫 인신매매 혐의가 적용되면 더 큰 처벌을 받을 수 있는 만큼 불법 행위에 연루되지 않도록 주의해야 한다"고 말했다.

Nine Koreans nabbed for ‘sex tourism’

CEBU CITY–Nine Koreans have been detained after they were allegedly caught engaging in sexual services with young Cebuana teenagers who worked in an escort service.

Jongnam Ham, Munsu Lee, Joontae Kim, Dongkil Kim, Jong in Han, Hosik Park, Jae Gyu Kim, Namgyun Shin and Byeonghae Park were at the stockage of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) at the Capitol-site pending filing of charges for violating section 11 of Republic Act 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012 which prohibits anyone from “engaging the services of a trafficked person.”

Qualified trafficking charges would also be filed against three other Korean nationals who recruited the victims. The three, who remained at large were only identified as Choi, Andy, and Kim.
