겨울왕국(원제:Frozen) 이 상영된지 한달 가까이 지났음에도 불구하고 여전히 선풍 같은 인기를 끌고 있네요. 그 비결은 매력적인 캐릭터들, 스토리 등등 여러 가지 이유가 있겠습니다만 가장 큰 이유는 재생을 멈출 수 없는 겨울왕국 OST때문이 아닐까요?
저 역시도 겨울왕국을 보고 아직도 Let it go 후유증을 떨치지 못하고 있는데요, 그건 한국에 있는 가수들도 마찬가지 인 것 같습니다. Let it go가 선풍적인 인기를 끌자 노래 좀 한다는 여가수들의 나도나도 이름 알릴 거야라면서 너도나도 Let it go를 부르고 있습니다. 첫 시도는 좋았으나 글쎄요, 점점 사람들이 Let it go의 아류에는 흥미를 잃어가는 모양입니다.
그래서 오늘은 Let it Go의 원곡을 부른 두명의 가수 이디나 멘젤과 데미 로바토의 곡을 살펴보려 합니다.
그럼 먼저 두 가수의 Let it go를 들어볼까요?
먼저 이디나 멘젤의 Let it go입니다.

이번에는 데미 로바토의 Let it go입니다.

먼저 이디나 멘젤은 극중 엘사 그 자체입니다. 이디나 멘젤의 Let it go는 곧 엘사의 Let it go가 되는 것입니다.
자신을 속박하고, 감금하던 세상에서 벗어나 자유롭게 살겠다고 노래하고 있습니다.
그 상징으로 자기가 두르고 있던 망토를 벗어 던집니다.
이제는 사람들이 뭐라고 하던 신경쓰지 않겠다고 말하면서 우울하게 시작했던 엘사의 표정이 조금씩 밝아지기 시작합니다.
엘사는 더 이상 슬퍼하거나 우울해 하지 않습니다.
자신을 속박하던 공포는 더 이상 자신을 괴롭히는 존재가 아닙니다.
엘사가 있는 공간은 자신의 능력이 남에게 피해를 주지 않는 공간입니다.
이 공간에서 엘사는 자신의 한계를 깨고 앞으로 나아가겠다고 외칩니다.
엘사는 이제 웃고 있습니다.
마침내 엘사는 자신의 성으로 향하는 계단을 만듭니다.
Let it go를 외치면서 엘사는 자신이 만든 계단을 올라갑니다.
더 이상 자신의 능력 때문에 숨고 살아야 하는 존재가 아닌, 자신의 능력을 펼치면서 자유롭게 사는 얼음의 여왕이 된 것입니다.
노래를 부르는 중에 Here I stand(내가 여기 서 있다) 라는 가사가 두 번이 나옵니다.
첫 번째 장면은 자신의 성을 세우는 장면입니다.
내가 여기 서 있다고 외치면서 엘사는 자신의 성을 세웁니다.
자신의 성에 들어간 엘사는 숨겨야하는 자신, 자유롭지 못한 자신이였던 공주의 의상을 버리고 머리를 풀어헤치며 얼음여왕으로 변합니다.
그리고 더 이상 남들앞에서 완벽해야 했던 자신은 없다, 바로 내가 여기 서 있다고 말합니다.
그리고 엘사는 자유를 만끽합니다.
하지만 이 성에 대한 해석은 한가지로 정의할 수 없습니다.
엘사에게 성은 해방의 공간이자 자유의 공간, 그리고 참된 자아를 찾는 그런 공간일수도 있습니다.
하지만 외부와는 단절되어야만 하는 자신을 뜻하기도 합니다.
하지만 이 영상에서만은 엘사는 억압에서 벗어나 자기 자신을 찾는 얼음의 여왕의 모습을 보여줍니다.
반면에 Demi Lovato는 엘사가 아닙니다. 한국어 버전으로 생각한다면 효린의 노래라고 생각할 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 데미 로바토의 노래는 극중에 들어간게 아니라 영화가 끝나고 엔딩 크레딧에 들어간 것이기 때문입니다. 이 때문에 많은 오해가 있곤 합니다. 데미 로바토는 감정을 잘 살리지 못하네, 그냥 자기 노래하는 것처럼 하네, 별로네 이런 말들도 많이 볼 수 있습니다. 하지만 그건 당연히 데미 로바토는 엘사가 아니기 때문입니다. 노래를 들어보면 알겠지만 두 노래는 아예 가사부터가 다릅니다. 같은 제목을 가진 다른 노래라고 생각하시면 될 것 같습니다. 혹시 이 Let it go 때문에 이디나 멘젤은 감정을 잘 살리는 멋진 가수이고 데미 로바토는 별로다 라는 인식을 가질 수 있는 분들게 데미 로바토의 노래를 하나 추천해드리고 싶습니다.

이 노래도 엘사처럼 진짜 자신, 숨기고 속여왔던 자신이 아닌 진짜 자신을 찾는 노래입니다.
개인적으로는 Demi Lovato의 곡들중에서 가장 좋아하는 곡입니다.
결론적으로 이디나 멘젤과 데미 로바토가 부른 두 노래의 차이는 극중의 인물이 부르는 노래인가 가수로서 부르는 노래인가의 차이입니다.
누가누가 더 잘해요보다는 둘 다 매력있고 좋은 가수들 입니다.
