외국에 사는 학생인지라 직접적으로 도움을 드리기도 힘들고 지켜보기만 하는게 너무 가슴아파서 다른 사람들에게라도 진상을 알리기 위해 영어로 어느정도 정리해봤습니다.

"Small movement makes a big miracle."

Last thursday (April 16th) marks a year since the Sewol ferry disaster has happened.

To remember the 304 victims, including 250 highschool students, South Korea citizens organize a march in Seoul (capital city of South Korea).

It was meant to be peaceful and respectful; until the police stopped the march with force.

The police announced that the march was illegal as it was disturbing the traffic.

The citizens argue back saying that peaceful march is a granted right by the constitution and therefore it is legal.

Another police announcement states that the march was stopped as it was turning into a violent riot.

The citizens say otherwise; the meaning of marching was for the rememberence of victims, not violence.

Citizens feel that the government is invading the human rights and trying to hide what is happening.

This made citizens to ask a question that has been asked many times already: "The victims could have been saved as the reports show there was enough time to rescue all of them, but what happened?"
 
Regardless of the answer, the government is yet to take a thorough investigation, which created great tension between citizens and the government.

The clash is still ongoing; the participants of the march are trapped within a wall that is created by police - without food, water, and sanitary items.

People outside of the wall are getting arrested if they tried to bring anything to help people within the wall.

Police is using pepper spray and water canon over the limitation to the citizens who are not fighting back.

Ironically, the police is disturbing the traffic by blocking the roads to trap the participants - which was already decided against the constitution in 2011.

Around GwangHwaMun Sqaure, it is recommended to bring raincoat, umbrella, and mask to minimize the effect of pepper spray and water cannon.

Also, the participants are lacking supplies - especially water to drink and wipe out pepper spray.

Campaign to volunteer for helping the participants are going around nationwidely; each of them bringing clean water, wipes, or anything that could help.
 
This is the most disrespectful thing that a government can do to its people.

The government does not want to remember the victims of Sewol; not only that, they are using force to stop people.

Citizens demand thorough investigation of failure of rescuing the victims.

Citizens demand way to prevent this disaster from happening again; rather than prohibiting field trips (and yes, that was their solution for prevention).
 
Citizens demand government to stop hiding information from public.

Most importantly, citizens demand human rights to be taken seriously.

We will never forget what happened. We will share the grief with the families and friends of the victims.
