Trump on North Korea: 'I always believe in talking'

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump told reporters Saturday at Camp David that he's open to talking with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"Sure, I always believe in talking," he said. "But we have a very firm stance. Look, our stance, you know what it is. We're very firm. But I would be, absolutely I would do that. I don't have a problem with that at all."

"그럼, 난 언제나 대화를 믿는 사람이거든.  그런데 우리가 확고한 입장이 있쟎아? 봐봐, 우리 입장이, 알쟎아, 뭔지?  우리는 확고하다고. 그런데 난 할 거야 (대화를), 절대적으로/진짜로 할 거라고 (대화를). 난 (대화하는 것에) 아무 문제 없어."  

When asked by a reporter if that meant Trump doesn't need any prerequisites to meeting with North Korea, Trump said that wasn't what he meant.

기자가 북한과 만나는 것에 대한 전제 조건이 없는 거냐고 묻자, 트럼프는 그런 뜻이 아니라고 했다. 

"It's not what I said at all," he responded. "(Kim) knows I'm not messing around. I'm not messing around. Not even a little bit. Not even 1%. He understands that. At the same time, if we can come up with a very peaceful and very good solution, we're working on it ... with a lot of people."

"그런 뜻이 아니거든?  김정인이도 알아. 내가 장난하는 거 아니라는 거. 나 장난하는 거 아니거든 (핵단추 운운하며 강성 발언한 거 말하는 듯).  난 전혀 장난하는 거 아냐. 조금도. 1퍼센트도 말이지.  걔도(김정은) 그거 알아. 동시에 말이지, 만약 우리가 아주 평화롭고 아주 좋은 해결책을 마련할 수 있다면 말이지, 그거 가지고 할거야..... 아주 많은 사람들과 말이지." 

Trump added: "If something can happen and something can come out of those talks, that would be a great thing for all of humanity. That would be a great thing for the world. Very important."

트럼프 : "무언가 일어나고, 이 회담(남북회담)으로 뭔가 나온다면 말이지, 그건 정말 온 인류를 위해 위대한 것이 될 거야.  세계를 위해 대단한 것이 될 거라구. 아주 중요하지."   (-- 트럼프가 엄청 기대하는 군요.  이 회담에서 성과가 나면 그걸 시작으로 세계 평화에 이바지할 엄청난 업적을 이룰 거라고 생각하는 듯합니다. 지금 노벨상 꿈꾸고 있을지도 ㅋㅋ)

The President's comments come amid heightening tensions over North Korea's nuclear weapons program, with Trump tweeting earlier this week that his nuclear button is "bigger and more powerful" the Kim's. The tweet follows the North Korean leader's remarks in a New Year's Day address that "(t)he entire mainland of the US is within the range of our nuclear weapons. ..."

On Saturday, Trump also praised South Korea for its efforts to open communication with North Korea in an effort to improve relations, including discussion of the participation of North Korean athletes in the Winter Olympics.

토요일, 트럼프는 남한이 북한과 관계개선을 위해 대화하려고 노력하는 것을 칭찬했다, 올림픽에 북한 출전하는 것도 포함해서. 

"President Moon (Jae-in) called me and we had a great discussion a couple of days ago, and he thanked me very much, and I hope it works out. I very much want to see it work out between the two countries," Trump said, referring to North Korea accepting South Korea's proposal for official talks in what will be the first high-level contact between the two countries in more than two years.

"이틀전에 문대통령이 전화해서 우리 정말 엄청 좋은 대화를 나눴는데, 나한데 정말 고맙다고 했다, 그리고 나도 잘 되길 바란다 (남북회담이).  난 두 나라사이에 잘 되기를 아주 많이 보고 싶다" 트럼프가 고위급회담 재개에 대해서 말하면서. 

"I'd like to see them getting involved in the Olympics and maybe things go from there. So, I'm behind that 100%," Trump said.

"남북이 올림픽에 관련해서 뭐하는 거 보고 싶고, 아마도 거기서부터 뭔 일이 있지 않을까해.  그러니까, 난 이 번일(남북회담) 100% 지지한다."

South Korean Unification Ministry spokesman Baik Tae-hyun told reporters Friday that North Korea informed Seoul by fax that it has accepted the offer to initiate talks.

남한 통일부장관이 금요일에 대화재개를 하자는 북한 팩스를 받았다고 한다. 

The person-to-person talks will be held Tuesday -- the day after Kim's birthday -- at the Peace House in the village of Panmunjom in the Demilitarized Zone.

면대면 회담은 화요일에 열린다. 판문점에서. 

Trump appeared to give himself credit for the meeting during his press conference with reporters.

트럼프는 이번 기자회견에서 남북회담의 공을 자기에게 돌리는 것으로 보인다. 

"A lot of people have said, a lot of people have written, that without my rhetoric, without my tough stance -- and it's not just a stance, I mean, this is what has to be done, if it has to be done -- that they wouldn't be talking about Olympics, they wouldn't be talking right now," he said. "I'd love to see them take it beyond the Olympics. ... At the appropriate time, we'll get involved."
